It was both their passion for Latin dancing, and encouragement from a dedicated group of dancing friends, that inspired Emily and Ariel to form the Salsa Club Dunedin.
They have been dance partners since 2009, dancing together and performing Bachata, Salsa and Zouk, at various events. They have travelled to many festivals and congresses, continually upskilling in many dance styles.
They started teaching a practice group of fellow dancers and friends in 2012, inviting others to join for informal lessons in January 2016. Rapid growth within the club inspired them to share their dancing skills and techniques more formally, and they started teaching formal lessons in Bachata, Salsa, Rueda, Kizomba and Zouk.
Now Emily runs the busy studio in Central Dunedin, and Ariel teaches the various styles alongside her.
